Art Journal Monday- Such A Lovely Roadside Attraction

Quiet words on even quieter pagesScraps of paper, art journal remnantsArt journal monday, camera art journal mondays coffee and art journals Art journal words and scribbles Smudges and words IMG_7247 Such a Lovely Roadside attraction Clean art journal pages, scribbles of a mess

I haven’t been sleeping well lately.

Instead i’ve been finding myself up on the lonely side of midnight, tearing pages out of notebooks and lusting after watercolor skills. I fluctuate between happiness that spreads across pages like stained glass windows of color, and the kind of sadness that picks listlessly at the margins of deadline due papers. But there is so much to do, so much to see, languages to learn, different kinds of coffee to drink, music to pour into my ears with reckless abandon and usually around 3am I pull myself together enough to put my colored pencils in a rainbows order, clean up my paper scrap mountain messes and head to sleep, finally.

Creativity is a blessing but sometimes.
Sometimes it fries my brain and leaves me staring at my walls with wide owl eyes, a sea of colors flowing into connections but no energy to make it into reality. Tea helps though, and a friend suggested meditation, but we’ll see what sticks. Maybe I should just open up an all night coffee shop, call it “Creative’s Cafe”, stock it with art supplies and semi-decent coffee and just roll with it. Maybe?

Music on repeat this past week:
Ribs (Lets Have a Sleepover Version)- Lorde, Ryan Hemsworth Remix
MakeDamnSure– Taking Back Sunday
Lifeforms– Daughter
Operation Prometheus– Kraddy
Holy Soul– Salt Cathedral
House of the Rising Sun– Lauren O’ Connell (cover)
Do you Realize?– The Flaming Lips
Listen to The Math– Tokyo Police Club

On a side note, I did actually go out and buy a set of watercolor tubes and supplies this weekend so…fair warning, expect to see oddly wet pages and utterly crappy colored things sometime soon.

I think your cafe would be super popular! Especially in a college town or big city where there’s that niche.

I also wanted to say, I took a class in college called “Watercolors for Non-Art Majors” and it was the best class I took while there. We met in the mornings and it was so peaceful: painting away my worries about deadlines, packed schedules, and everything else that crams the mind. Your blog reminds me that even though I no longer have those SAME worries, it’s important to make time for myself and do those things I love. Thank you!

Aww I know right? It’s been this random dream of mine since I was 12 to open up a cafe like that, I just really like the idea of being surrounded by night owls and just encouraging that behavior with access to more coffee :P

And you are so very welcome, I try and keep things positive on here but sometimes I think it’s good to remind people that life gets everyone down, you just have to take it one step at a time and things will get better. I really hope I get to experience that same kind of peaceful moment you had in your calss when I get time to start watercoloring, my mind needs a little more quiet. I hope you keep making time for yourself and doing the things you love, pursuing your personal happiness is so, so important :)

Gah, I’d live in your coffee shop if you did that, but I’d want to drink tea, is that allowed?
Beautiful photos as always my love!

Tea is most definitely allowed, hell i’ll even go ahead and serve things like hot chocolate :P
      Thank you thank you! ;D

Can you open it up in my town? I would be an everyday customer! :) I think it would be really popular. Sorry to hear your not sleeping well:( I know what thats like and hope it improves for you. I keep writing till I fall asleep and hate when I don’t . Great post and fantastic photos you have such a creative eye.

It should be a chain honestly, considering how many people I know that would love a place to stay up all night at and be artistic in :P
Thank you for your kind words really, and well, I’m hoping sleep will come again soon in it’s regular ways too, but for now i’ll just take advantage of the extra hours i’m awake aha XD

Sounds like the coffee shop idea is a hit! I’m thinking we should explore this more… :-)
